Upon opening it, she discovers pieces of her past preserved in photographs, notes, and a cassette tape containing old family recordings. As she reconnects with these memories, she is visited by her childhood self, with whom she spends the rest of the day in deep conversation.
With a script by Ana Moura, the filmmaker also debuts in this short film as director. The short film is a production by Bactéria Filmes and Sala Filmes, and co-produced by Forno Fx and Lágrima de Crocodilo Filmes.
More information:
Flora is a short film about affection, memories and empathy.
The script was inspired by the real lives of elderly women that the filmmaker met over the years, as well as their family members and her own mother.
Touching on themes such as maturity, lament and empathy, the short film raises a series of social issues, precisely in a post-Covid-19 pandemic period, in which many elderly people remained isolated and far from their families, thus causing a lot of loneliness and abandonment.
"More than a tribute to my mother, who passed away in 2018, this film is also a love letter to every elder I've ever known and the sweet old ladies from the neighborhood where I grew up. We need to talk about aging—the heartaches, the joys, and all the emotions that come with this stage of life.", adds screenwriter and director Ana Moura.
Funded collaboratively, the short film faced several challenges throughout its production, including refined visual effects work, which, presented in the format of a prism, shows us the various sides of feelings and situations, bringing an air of psychedelic fantasy to the plot.
